My fellow Group III members:
            It is with great enthusiasm to introduce your new Deputy Group Commander – Lt Col Steve Schultz.
 
Lt Col Schultz joined CAP as a cadet with the Spokane Composite Squadron, Washington Wing, in 1985.  While a cadet, he participated in numerous encampments, air shows, the Washington Wing Drill Team, the Air Training Command Familiarization Course, and the International Air Cadet Exchange program.  Lt Col Schultz earned the General Carl A. Spaatz Award in 1988.  Since becoming a senior member, Lt Col Schultz has continued to work with the cadet program in a variety of leadership roles.  He has served as a senior member cadet programs staff officer in Washington, Oregon, Hawaii, California, Texas, and Florida Wings.  In 1993, the Hawaii Wing Commander selected Lt Col Schultz as the coach and escort officer for the Hawaii Wing Cadet Drill Team that represented the Pacific Region of CAP in the National Cadet Competition (NCC) at Maxwell AFB, AL.  Lt Col Schultz’s service at the NCC resulted in an on-the-spot award of the CAP Meritorious Service Award by the Pacific Region Commander.  Lt Col Schultz has served as the Group Cadet Programs Officer with Group 19, Texas Wing in San Antonio, TX, where he orchestrated two visits to San Antonio by IACE cadets.  Prior to his recent assignment, he was the Deputy Commander of Cadets at Polk County Composite squadron and formerly the Deputy Commander at Summerlin Academy Cadet Squadron where he assisted with the initial setup of CAP’s first full-time middle school cadet program.
 
Lt Col Schultz is also an officer in US Air Force Reserve and a former active duty Air Force officer.  He was commissioned through Air Force ROTC at the University of Portland in 1991.  After commissioning, he attended the Signals Intelligence Officer course at Goodfellow AFB, TX.  Following training, Lt Col Schultz was assigned as a Flight Commander with the 6931st Electronic Security Squadron at Iraklion Air Station, Crete, Greece.  Next, he served as a Joint Operations Center Team Chief at the 324th Intelligence Squadron at Wheeler Army Airfield, Hawaii.  Lt Col Schultz first participated in Operation SOUTHERN WATCH as Chief of Mission Management at the 6975th Intelligence Squadron (Provisional) in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.  In 1996, Lt Col Schultz entered Air Force pilot training at Laughlin AFB, TX.  Upon completion of SUPT, he was selected to fly the KC-10 Extender air refueling aircraft at McGuire AFB, NJ.  After spending a year on the CINC's personal staff at US Southern Command in Miami, FL, Lt Col Schultz was assigned to the 9th Air Refueling Squadron at Travis AFB, CA, where he served as a KC-10 aircraft commander and participated in Operation NOBLE EAGLE and Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.  His last active duty assignment was as an Assistant Director of Operations and C-21A Aircraft Commander at Randolph AFB, TX.  In the USAFR, he has served as an intelligence officer at the Joint Information Operations Center at Lackland AFB, TX.  Lt Col Schultz is currently an Air Force Academy Admissions Liaison Officer.
 
      Lt Col Schultz currently teaches high school-level mathematics at All Saints’ Academy in Winter Haven, FL.
